A “speed dating” evening for single ladies and men makes its way to Shangri-La’s Tanjung Aru Resort and Spa, Kota Kinabalu on Valentine’s Day. This is the first such event in Sabah.
Single ladies or men should not feel left out on Valentine’s Day, as they can join in the “speed dating” Valentine’s dinner in the Grand Ballroom on 14 February 2008, where they can meet up to 21 dates in one fun-filled night. Tickets for the “speed dating” dinner are priced at RM150 nett per person.
The singles can come alone without feeling out of place; it is also something that both men and women who like to go out in groups can do together. Because the matching itself happens after the event, people do not feel pressured to select or reject someone in person. The time limit ensures that a participant will not be stuck with a boorish match for very long, and prevents participants from monopolising one another.
The male guests will pick up their seating sequence from a draw bowl upon arrival while the ladies remain on their tables throughout the evening. A total of 21 courses will be served and the men move to the next table after each course is consumed within seven minutes only. This flow will enable the single ladies or men to meet, sit down and have quick ice-breaking sessions with 21 guests.
Dishes include smoked salmon lollypop with goat cheese, cold mango shooter with prawn skewer, roulade eggplant and zucchini with basil mayonnaise, green asparagus on stuffed risotto with gorgonzola cheese, seared scallop on crushed potato and fennel with sweet orange sauce, pan-fried foie gras on sun-dried tomato bread and grape compote and many other dishes specially created for the event.
Couples can spend a romantic Valentine’s evening at Peppino, where Chef Denis will be rolling out the culinary red carpet with a romantic seven-course dinner menu priced at RM629++ per couple. The dinner includes a glass of Jacob’s Creek sparkling rose wine with a small box of chocolate pralines and a rose for the lady. A pianist will keep guests entertained from 8 to 10 p.m.
Guests can also express their love and affection at Peppino with the “Impian Cinta” cabana dinner specially created for the romantic at heart. The dinner is priced at RM2,999++ per couple and features an Italian set dinner menu, a bottle of Jacob’s Creek sparkling rose wine, a bouquet of roses and chocolates for the lady, and a complimentary one-night stay in a Kinabalu Deluxe Suite.
On Valentine’s Day, guests can focus their attention on loved ones and leave the rest in the capable culinary hands of Chef Tan Pin Guan at Shang Palace. A romantic Chinese set dinner including two glasses of sparkling wine is priced at RM288++ per couple.
Guests can also treat their loved ones to a romantic dinner under the stars with an Italian set menu and a glass of Jacob’s Creek sparkling rose wine at Coco-Joe’s. A candlelight dinner priced at RM320++ per couple and overlooking the panoramic city skyline makes the dining experience a perfect night out for guests and their loved ones.
Café TATU offers a special Valentine’s Day dinner on 14 February 2008, where lovers can enjoy a romantic buffet dinner with a gastronomic spread of the freshest seafood, Mongolian dishes, pasta and desserts. The buffet dinner is priced at RM118++ per adult and RM59++ per child.
Meanwhile, the upbeat at heart can celebrate Valentine’s Day at Blue Note. The “808 Band” will serenade lovers with love songs or lure them to the dance floor with their dynamic music. Guests can try the “My Sweet Valentine and Heart and Soul” cocktail, which is an ideal drink to sweep loved ones off their feet. The cocktail is priced at RM17++ per glass and is available at Borneo Lounge.
