Brit Drivers’ 'Rushing Roulette’ puts lives on roads at stake
Brit Drivers’ 'Rushing Roulette’
Added: 05/21/2008 - Rachel Builder or Anna Nicholls

British drivers rushing to or from work are placing everybody in danger. Lifestyles are getting more and more hectic by the day which is aggravating this problem.

- 60 percent of British drivers are rushing to work while 40 percent are in too much of a hurry getting home.
- Straightforward recklessness is indulged in by 43 percent of British drivers with one out of three admitting to poor concentration on the road.
- Of ten drivers, at least one has been in an accident caused by this rush to reach a destination.
- 50 percent of drivers are more likely to get involved in 'Road Rage’ incidents when they driving in this manner.
- Getting to business meetings on time is a main cause of this problem among British drivers, reveals the survey; the next cause being getting to school on time to pick up the kids and then work arrival timing.
- Driving is not the only thing affected by modern lifestyles. At home and off the road, housework is rushed, as is dinner by 50 percent, children's homework is rushed by 13 percent; even sex doesn't get spared with 6 percent rushing it!

This need to hurry that has been displayed by British drivers obviously leads to more road rage and accidents. Research by Carrentals.co.uk has indicated that the cause of this need is the growing demand imposed by family and career pressures.

This rush to get to the workplace is a regular occurrence in the lives of 60 percent of 800 drivers who were polled during research by Carrentals.co.uk. Reckless endangerment often results due to the aggressive overtaking and speeding they indulge in, said 43 percent.

As pressures on time build to unmanageable levels driver concentration dips in direct proportion, with a third of UK drivers admitting to lowered levels of concentration and one out of every 10 attributing this to be a cause of accident and injury.

Such drivers have reversed into lampposts, crashed into other cars and have lost control while speeding. Cases where pedestrians have been hit at marked crossings while crossing roads are also quite common.

One in ten British drivers are now finding themselves embroiled in incidents of road rage as this last-minute rush has brought about an increase in such cases; this is almost certainly due to the busy lives these drivers are now dealing with. Driver stress is revealed on the roads as lights are flashed and verbal abuse is hurled back and forth. These incidents can escalate to even serious physical assaults or violent attacks.

Getting to business meetings on time has become such an important factor in British lives that it has emerged rather surprisingly as the biggest cause for concern among 41 percent of those polled, followed by getting their children home from school, getting to work on time and then reaching their partner’s romantic dinner.

When they are not at the wheel people have admitted rushing in other areas of their lives which becomes a habit - with eating in a hurry topping the list, followed by rushed housework, hurried conversations with friends and poor concentration when helping with homework assignments of their children. Some 6.5 percent say they rush through sex, one respondent said his wife had actually complained about this.

Stating that fatalities could be a direct result of this lowered concentration on the road, Gareth Robinson the Managing Director for Carrentals.co.uk added that rushing due to lifestyle is now a very common trait among UK drivers.
